We are; Brian Docherty (producer/arranger), Dave Gillies

How would you describe the music you make?
We make dense, multilayered, melodic, emotional electronic music. We're calling it 'Power-ambient Electronica'.
How did you start out making music?
Fortunately we're all naturally gifted musicians & songwriters, so
we picked up different instruments & styles along the way, but,
Machines in Heaven grew out of one of Dave & Graham's previous
projects, the multi-genre experiment 'The Great I Am'. The electronic
tracks we'd made with Miaoux Miaoux were so satisfying that a run of
inspiration followed & we realized that, when done properly,
electronic-based music is the broadest canvas there is musically, with
lots of room for emotional impact.
What process goes into the way you write
songs?
The music for the forthcoming album was all written on the guitar by
Graham, then taken to producers Brian Docherty & Greg Hurst. Graham
knows what the melodies, basslines & beats are, & then tries to
describe sounds he wants to Brian & Greg. This leads to many happy
accidents & often the track can go in a much different direction
than originally intended. The best idea or accident stays, which is why
we're also going to jam a lot more from now on.
What can people expect from your live
shows?
Most importantly, we intend that people who see us play live will go
through an intense emotional experience from just hearing the music
alone, but we'll be planning on interesting visuals, instrument
swapping, & making it a night for dancing too.
What are you all listening to at the
moment?
We're listening to Little Dragon, Burial's new EP, 60s soul, various
classical pieces, epic movie soundtracks, If You Lived Here You'd Be
Home By Now, Profisee, lots from the Black Lantern label, United Fruit,
Goat Doctor, Sleepy Party People, Rustie, & we've always had a soft
spot for Miaoux Miaoux of course.
What can we expect to see/hear from you in the
future?
We're working on a wee homemade video for YouTube, & we're finishing off the album. We've got an album preview/launch night in a few months tba with amazing support acts you'll have definitely heard of.. also, it looks like we could be playing some tasty support slots, & people at some of our favourite labels are into our stuff, so, we're working with that in mind too.
